According to a Manchester Evening News report, Jose Mourinho is on the verge of capturing his top transfer target in a £86 million deal with Griezmann the most coveted player in Europe.
Diego Simeone and Atletico Madrid would be powerless to stop the transfer of their prized asset if United trigger Griezmann's €100 million (£86 million) buy-out clause.
Griezmann has been coy on a protracted move to England and cited the bad English weather as a reason that he would not be moving to the English Premiership.
"There are many doubts about my private life. There is rain, bad weather... I need to be happy outside," The 25-year old said.
Mourinho views Griezmann as a match-winner who can transform his side with Wayne Rooney set to leave United to return to boyhood club Everton.
